Frequently asked questions
Do my photos ever leave my iPhone?
No. All scanning and comparison happens on the device, and there is no account and no photo upload path. We do collect anonymous usage recordings to find bugs, and those recordings include a reconstruction of the app screens — but every view that shows your photos is masked before recording, so photo content is never part of what we receive.
Where do deleted photos go?
They go to the standard iOS "Recently Deleted" album, where they stay for 30 days before iOS removes them permanently. You can restore anything from there in the Photos app during that window.
Why does storage not drop immediately after I delete photos?
Because the files are still in "Recently Deleted". To reclaim the space right away, open Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted and empty it.
How does Sweep decide two photos are duplicates?
It compares images by visual similarity, not by file name or timestamp, so burst shots and lightly edited copies are grouped together. You always review a group and choose what to keep before anything is deleted.
Why do I see ads, and what do they collect?
Ads keep Sweep free. They are served by Google AdMob, which may use an advertising identifier. We never sell your data, and we do not build a profile of you. You can limit ad tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
What analytics does Sweep use, and can I turn it off?
Sweep uses Microsoft Clarity to record anonymous usage sessions, so we can see where the app confuses people or breaks. Views that display your photos are masked at the SDK level before anything is recorded. Analytics follows the consent choice shown when you first open the app; if you decline, it stays switched off.
The scan seems slow on a large library. Is something wrong?
No. A library with tens of thousands of items takes time because every photo is analyzed on the device. Leave the app in the foreground during the first scan; later scans are faster.
